A tiny face. Big whiskers. A rescue begins.

A dedicated charity is saving Ireland’s seal pups and their homes.

A tiny seal pup is found alone on the beach. Hungry, and far from safe.

This is where Seal Rescue Ireland (SRI) steps in: they rescue, rehabilitate, and care for the sick and orphaned seal pups.

But they know the real problem starts on land: human disturbance, climate stress, and polluted water making seals sick. So, SRI restores what the sea depends on: clean rivers and coasts.

Through its Habitat Restoration Programme, SRI is restoring over 21 hectares (mapped on Restor) by planting native Irish trees to protect freshwater and rebuild resilient ecosystems.

They team up with farmers, local communities, and landowners to protect and restore rivers, estuaries, and coastal habitats.

Weeks pass. The pup gets stronger.

Flippers splash in clean, healthy water, a safe home mended by people who care. And love.

SRI has grown into a nationally coordinated rescue network, supported by over 700 trained volunteers across the country.

By the end of 2023, they had planted 33,700+ trees and bagged recognition like the ‘Best in South-East Region for Waters and Communities Award’ in 2021.

“Restor helps us track the data from our projects and explore similar work around the world. The visibility and functionality give us evidence we can take to partners and policymakers. Confident it will help influence national restoration in Ireland.” - Seal Rescue Ireland

SRI has become a beloved voice for wildlife advocacy, sharing seal stories that educate and inspire.
