The $850K feedback loop: How one award campaign mobilized funding for 79 nature organizations

An infrastructure that allowed an opportunity to travel further through the network.

Too often, conservation funding asks local organizations to start from scratch for every new opportunity, with another application, another review process and another wait to find out whether support will reach them.

For the RestorLife Awards 2026, we wanted to push beyond the traditional award model. We received more than 320 applications in the NGO category and selected ten finalists. The opportunity was never designed to stop with the organizations that made the final cut.

This year, we built the RestorLife application to not only recognize land stewards delivering the G20 Global Land Initiative, but to create a pathway into a crowdfunding campaign with our partners at Ma Earth. This meant organizations applying for the awards could use their Restor profile to build crowdfunding campaigns, mobilize their communities around their work and access up to $500k in matching funds.

In total, 79 Restor users ultimately joined the Ma Earth campaign. For three solid weeks, they rallied supporters, told their own stories and turned visibility into direct financial support.

As momentum and interest grew, Ma Earth expanded the crowdfunding pool from $500k to $1m. What started as a $10k prize to celebrate a stand-out winner - SELVA - became an opportunity to recognize and reward a network.

When visibility becomes opportunity

The money matters enormously. But so does what made this scale possible.

All 79 organizations already had their restoration work represented on Restor, allowing third-party partners like Ma Earth to quickly review their ground-level work and their trusted partner networks. Together, that meant trusted organizations were connected to a real funding opportunity.

That is the part we want to build on.

Awards will always have finalists and winners. But the opportunities created around them do not have to stop there. By connecting a wider community of restoration organizations with the right partners and funding infrastructure, RestorLife Awards reached far beyond the finalists it began with.

That is the feedback loop: data creates visibility. Visibility creates connection, connection creates trust, and that can create opportunity. About $850,000 was mobilized through this campaign for Restor users alone, but perhaps its most important result was showing what can happen when an award becomes a doorway rather than an endpoint.

We’re so thankful to Ma Earth and the G20 Global Land Initiative for helping make that possible, and to every organization and supporter who carried the campaign forward.

A glimpse into the future of restoration finance

What happened through RestorLife gives us a glimpse of what a more connected restoration economy could look like. We are working toward a network where restoration organizations can be discovered not only by funders, but by peers, technical experts and communities who can share knowledge, build trust and help validate progress on the ground.

For Projects: Greater discoverability means less time chasing administrative paperwork and more opportunities to connect with partners, resources, and funding.

For Funders & Partners: A connected ecosystem of visible, structured projects provides the clarity and confidence needed to deploy resources and capital effectively.

Join the Network

Restor is not simply a mapping tool or a static directory. It is an open network designed to make restoration work visible and easier to connect with. When a project shares its work on Restor, it becomes part of a wider ecosystem of organizations, experts and potential partners. Making your work visible is only the beginning.
