A new wave of unity is echoing across Africa, and we’re proud to be part of it. The Great Green Wall is one of the world’s most ambitious restoration projects: an 8,000km corridor of trees, grasslands, and restored ecosystems stretching through 11 countries. The “new world wonder” intends to restore degraded lands whilst improving food security and livelihoods for millions. But ambition on this scale comes with a challenge: how do you connect thousands of local projects into one trusted, transparent movement?

Now, its newer identity, Great Green Wall Frontline, shifts the focus to a people-powered movement and found its answer in Restor Insights

From fragmented data to a unified dashboard

In The Gambia, the Great Green Wall Frontline team faced a challenge common to restoration efforts: scattered and inconsistent data. Information on species, landscapes, carbon potential, and community activities sat in silos.

For governments, this made it nearly impossible to piece together a national picture. For funders, updates often arrived late, making it hard to feel connected. In April 2025, they adopted Restor Insights to bring everything together in one place: unifying projects, improving reporting, and building trust across communities

“We had so many different sources of data. Restor brings them together in one place. We’re faster, more rigorous, and more open thanks to Restor”. Maimuna Jabbie, co-founder, Great Green Wall Frontline

Building trust with real-time transparency

With Restor Insights, every partner now has their own profile, can upload self-reported data, and see themselves as part of a national effort. This visibility allows The Gambia to evidence restoration in a way that inspires scaling across the Sahel.

As Jonathan Robinson, co-founder of Great Green Wall Frontline, describes it:

“Restor brings our landscape to life. Communities suddenly see the place they call home with a new perspective. Governments celebrate once disparate projects as part of a greater, more coherent whole. Our funders feel closer thanks to the open-source, real-time transparency. You’re not just the Google for landscapes, you’ve given us the tools for trust-building - and that’s the most valuable thing we could wish for, growing an audacious movement across The Sahel”.

The Gambia as a model for scaling across the Sahel

For communities, it means recognition of their work. For governments, it means evidence to plan and report progress without delays. For funders, it means trusted, real-time updates. For all, it means seeing how local efforts add up to a continental movement. With Restor Insights, The Gambia is proving that restoration can be visible, trusted, and scalable. The team would love to share their learning
